A man was shot and killed during a community event in Hale County over the weekend, and authorities say no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
According to Hale County Sheriff Michael Hamilton, the shooting occurred around 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, during the “Class Day Out” event being held near the 16000 block of Alabama Highway 14 in the Sawyerville community.
Sheriff Hamilton clarified that while the incident occurred during the event, the shooting did not take place inside the designated venue area. Emergency responders were called to the scene after reports of gunfire.
When deputies arrived, they found a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was later identified as 24-year-old Librian Jones Jr. of Greensboro. Officials confirmed that no one else was injured in the incident.
Jones was transported for medical treatment, but he later died as a result of his injuries.
Investigators have identified a suspect as Karderrel Winn, who remains at large. Authorities have not released a motive for the shooting, and it is still unclear what led to the deadly incident.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation is now leading the case alongside local authorities as the search for the suspect continues.
