Houston Police Department (HPD) is asking for the public’s assistance in locating two persons of interest connected to the fatal shooting of 39-year-old Sean Bree.
Authorities have identified the individuals as 23-year-old Iddris Umaru and 22-year-old Axzey Mojica. Police say neither man has been charged at this time, but both are considered persons of interest as investigators continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident.
According to HPD, officers responded around 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, to reports of a shooting at a strip center in the 10000 block of Belknap Road, near Bissonnet and Eldridge in west Houston. When officers arrived, they found Bree suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Following the initial response, detectives reviewed surveillance footage and other evidence, which led them to identify Umaru and Mojica as individuals who may have been present at the scene shortly after the shooting. Investigators believe the two may have information that could be critical to the case and are asking for the public’s help in locating them.
Police have not released a possible motive, and the events leading up to the shooting remain under active investigation. Detectives with the HPD Homicide Division are continuing to gather witness statements, video evidence, and other leads in an effort to piece together a clear timeline of what occurred.
Authorities stress that the individuals named are not currently charged, but their whereabouts are important to the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information regarding Iddris Umaru or Axzey Mojica, or who may have witnessed the incident, is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
The investigation remains ongoing.
