Family, friends, and members of the Marysville and Marshall County communities are mourning the heartbreaking and sudden loss of 41-year-old Ryan Friedrichs, who died Monday following a tragic collision involving an industrial farm sprayer and a Union Pacific train in northeast Kansas.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. at the railroad crossing near 675 Harvest Road. Investigators said Friedrichs was operating an industrial sprayer southbound on a private driveway just south of Harvest Road when the vehicle failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the railroad crossing.
Authorities said the sprayer was struck by a westbound train, causing Friedrichs to be ejected from the vehicle. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but he was pronounced deceased from his injuries.
News of his passing has left loved ones and community members in deep shock and sorrow. Those who knew Friedrichs are remembering him as a hardworking individual with strong ties to his family, friends, and the local farming community. Two train conductors were also injured in the crash and were transported to Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville for treatment of serious injuries.
